Danny’s Place: Featured Partner Story

ThinkGive students at Danny's PlaceDanny’s Place provides young people opportunities to explore, create, and discover their happiest, healthiest selves—through inclusive community programming, social-emotional experiences, and supportive resources.

We asked the educators and students to share their feedback about their ThinkGive experience. Here is what they had to say.

Educator: Renn Duffey

Grades: 5-6

Location: Acton, MA

Began partnership with ThinkGive: 2021

Was ThinkGive a good use of your teaching time? We absolutely LOVED the program! Our kids were so engaged and kind to one another, and we can’t wait for our next program cycle.

How did ThinkGive impact your students? Our kids supported each other, found kind moments in their lives, and developed a better ability to communicate their gratitude for the world around them.

What’s a highlight from your experience with ThinkGive? One of the clearest examples of how ThinkGive impacted our students was when we did our appreciation rainbows! Each student chose a different person in the group and came up with different words to describe that person. The words were things like “kind,” “likable,” “generous,” “funny,” and my favorite of all, “loving.” It was so exciting to see our students recognize and be brave enough to mention such amazing qualities in each other.

Why would you recommend ThinkGive? ThinkGive perfectly embodies the morals and aspects we hope to grow in all of our organization’s participants, and it does that in just a few lesson plans! I can’t recommend this program enough!

What did students have to say about their ThinkGive experience?

“Thinkgive is amazing and makes me feel better.”

“ThinkGive is a really great thing for young kids!”

“I am kinder and more social and kinder to myself. I am also kinder to other people.”

Each ThinkGive partner has a dedicated program coordinator to ensure seamless service. Here’s what Program Coordinator Hannah Brewster had to say about the partnership:

What’s it been like working with Danny’s Place? I really enjoy partnering with Danny’s Place! Renn Duffey and I were collaborators throughout the program, particularly when we talked through curricular adjustments they made to meet the specific needs of their participants. Renn was an excellent communicator; she sent photographs of her students’ awesome ThinkGive work, shared stories about the social and emotional growth she observed throughout the program, and provided meaningful feedback about lesson plans. Danny’s Place is an organization passionate about nurturing youth, and I look forward to continuing our partnership this upcoming school year!

Danny’s Place is a recipient of the SEL for Every Child Fund, which provides full funding to bring ThinkGive social and emotional learning (SEL) programming to their youth.
