SEL Activity: Feed the Soil

Are you seeking easy-to-implement social-emotional activities for elementary-aged youth, whether in school or out-of-school settings? These SEL Activities may be small in size but deliver a significant impact.

Activity: Students learn about composting and the importance of closing the loop in their food system. They then start a compost bin at home and/or in the classroom.

SEL Core Competencies: Responsible decision-making, self-management, self-efficacy  

Grades: 3-5

Time: 20 minutes

Essential Questions: What is composting? What are the benefits of composting? How can composting help our community?

Student Action: In the coming days/weeks, students take a step towards being composters at home and/or take action to inspire someone else to join in the effort!
