SEL Activity: School Community Helpers

SEL Activity: School Community Helpers

Are you seeking easy-to-implement social-emotional activities for elementary-aged youth, whether in school or out-of-school settings? These SEL Activities may be small in size but deliver a significant impact.

Activity: We often take the people in our lives for granted. This activity will allow students to recognize and appreciate people they rarely interact with in their communities and build community through gratitude.

SEL Core Competencies: Social awareness, communication, relationship-building

Grades: 4-5

Time: 15-20 minutes

Essential Questions: Who are the people in your community who help others? How can a small act of gratitude spread through a community?

Student Action: Students think about how their community might look if specific roles didn’t exist. They practice showing gratitude to these community members by writing and delivering meaningful thank-you notes.

Program Connections: This activity has been modified from a lesson in our ThinkGive Elementary programs. To learn more, visit our PROGRAMS page.
